Lamar Johnson- Biography
Lamar Johnson is a 1970 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, with a degree in Finance. Upon graduation, he joined Procter & Gamble, and enjoyed a career of more than 33 years, about evenly split between sales/marketing and supply chain roles. Following several different field sales & sales management assignments throughout the Midwest and Texas, Lamar moved to the supply side of P&G to help develop the logistics role as part of the emerging multi-functional customer team approach pioneered by P&G. Lamar’s field logistics organization provided the link between the P&G supply chain and that of it’s customers, with a goal of improving efficiency to drive sales growth and cost/service improvement. In his final P&G assignment, Lamar reported to the North American President, and led the Customer Services and Logistics organization for the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico, which accounted for about 55% of Global P&G sales ($24 Billion at the time). His responsibilities included accounts receivable, order management, order & delivery service results, transportation purchasing/costs/service, 3rd party warehousing, P&G to customer supply strategy development, and over 800 employees.
Following retirement in January 2004, Lamar has leveraged his business experience with his passion for golf and improving the lives of disadvantaged kids by founding “The First Tee of Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky”. The First Tee is a youth development organization using golf as a vehicle to develop positive character traits in young people. He is has recently accepted a role at the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin, focused on expanding the relationship between industry and the Department of Marketing.
Lamar is married to Deb, a Sales & Marketing Consultant, has 4 children, and 7 grandchildren, and now lives in Austin, Texas.
